ASBI-02 - Asbestos Worker Initial

Course Description

This 4-day (32-hour) course will teach you the skills you need to remove, encapsulate, enclose, repair, or disturb friable or nonfriable asbestos. Through extensive hands-on training and realworld examples, you will gain the knowledge needed to protect yourself while handling asbestos materials on an asbestos abatement project.

This course meets the Mississippi Department of Education and Quality (MDEQ) and EPA model accreditation initial training requirements for asbestos abatement workers.

• Physical characteristics of asbestos
• Potential health effects related to asbestos exposure
• Employee personal protective equipment
• State-of-the-art work practices (proper construction; maintenance of barriers and decontamination enclosure systems, etc…)
• Personal hygiene (entry & exit procedures for the work area, use of showers, potential exposures, etc…)
• Additional safety hazards
• Medical monitoring (OSHA and EPA Worker Protection Rule requirements)
• Air monitoring
• Relevant Federal, State, and local regulatory requirements, procedures, and standards
• Establishment of respiratory protection programs
