This five-day (40-hour) course is designed for individuals seeking to become Certified Asbestos Abatement Supervisors or Contractors in order to perform, oversee, or supervise asbestos abatement workers.  

Learn the skills you need to oversee and supervise asbestos abatement workers in restricted and regulated asbestos abatement work areas. Through extensive hands-on training and real-world examples, you will gain the knowledge needed to ensure the safety of your workers and stay in compliance with OSHA and EPA regulations.  The class includes lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on training, a course review, and a written examination.

  • Physical characteristics of asbestos and asbestos-containing materials
  • Potential health effects related to asbestos exposure
  • Employee personal protective equipment
  • Proper work practices for asbestos abatement activities
  • Personal hygiene (entry & exit procedures for the work area, use of showers, potential exposures, etc…)
  • Hazards encountered during abatement activities and how to deal with them
  • Medical monitoring (OSHA and EPA Worker Protection Rule requirements)
  • Air monitoring
  • Relevant Federal, State, and local regulatory requirements, procedures, and standards
  • Respiratory protection programs and medical monitoring programs
  • Insurance and liability issues
  • Recordkeeping for asbestos abatement projects
  • Supervisory techniques for asbestos abatement activities
  • Contract specifications

This course meets the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) and EPA model accreditation initial training requirements for asbestos abatement supervisor /contractors.
